A new library for the University of Calgary.

The Taylor Family Digital Library was completed under a modified Design-Build arrangement where CANA worked with and directed Kasian and the design team to align the design with the budget and schedule. The project planning involved working with various departments and stakeholders to achieve consensus on the program.

The 265,000 ft2 building was constructed to replace the existing MacKimmie Library complex as the main library hub on campus. The facility includes library stacks, individual work areas, meeting space, multi-purpose areas, and an art gallery and optional event space. In addition to the Taylor Family Digital Library, CANA also constructed the High Density Library and completed the Taylor Family Quadrangle landscape re-development of the central campus grounds as part of the project.

The building was designed to be flexible by using a raised access floor system for the mechanical and electrical systems and modular partitions that allow the spaces to be easily configured.

The project was constructed adjacent to the MacKimmie Library tower and other occupied buildings on campus. Construction required extensive pre-planning to ensure there was minimal disruption to campus operations.

CANA assumed leadership in constructing the Taylor Family Digital Library, another cutting edge building that enriches our University's learning and research environment.
