Calgary Health Region
CANA and the Rockyview hospital joined forces in 1987 to work on a massive expansion of the facility. The project resulted in the hospital becoming twice its original size, providing some much needed services for Calgarians.
Construction included a two-level parkade, new support areas, operating rooms, radiology facilities, and three nursing floors. State-of-the-art equipment was installed in all areas of the hospital, including modernized mechanical and electrical systems. A full emergency department also added a much needed resource to the community. A kitchen and servery level was built to provide thousands of meals for patients and employees. Other phases of the renovation included the addition of two remote urology OR’s, two new cystoscopy procedure rooms, and major HVAC system modifications on level five to service the renovated areas.
The structure itself is unique. Floors are staggered, with a maximum of eight stories at any part of the expansion. The parkade structure is actually built into a hill. Although two levels of the parkade are underground, access to the bottom of the parkade is at grade.
Because of Rockyview’s location on the Glenmore Reservoir, the view available was showcased through the installation of several large windows. As well, a helipad was installed to allow for air transport units to arrive and depart from the hospital.
We are best known for our unique and one-of-a-kind projects, but these projects are just some of many institutional, commercial, industrial, residential and infrastructure work that we complete.
