The Princess Auto Retail Centre is a 37,000 ft2 storage and retail facility. The building features 4,000 ft2 of offices, a 6,000 ft2 warehouse, and 27,000 ft2 retail showroom with racking storage. The facility was built to the east of the Calgary Airport runway and flight paths were considered in the construction strategy. CANA used a shallow footing system, as well as load-bearing pre-cast concrete, in partnership with Eagle Builders, to achieve the height and span for the building, on schedule and without using large cranes that would have impacted flight paths. The foundations were integrated with the pre-cast concrete a single system.
The office/administration component included a kitchen, shipping and receiving warehouse with offices, meeting rooms, washrooms, office space, and security rooms. Heavy duty paving was used for the warehouse loading dock area to facilitate loading and off-loading of large trucks.
In addition to base-building construction and fit-outs, CANA also supported the developer by coordinating site services for neighbouring sites. CANA worked collaboratively with civil engineer, IDEA Group, to develop a phasing strategy for the site works and to coordinate construction.
