Details

CANA was the construction manager and general contractor for the new Hyatt Regency Hotel located in downtown Calgary. This 23-storey, four-star hotel contains 350 data-accessible guestrooms, has meeting facilities totaling over 25,000 ft², and features a 160-stall underground parkade. The hotel was constructed adjacent to the new Calgary Convention Centre, also constructed by CANA and opened in the summer of 2000.

One of the greatest challenges in constructing the hotel was the incorporation of historical buildings along the Stephen Avenue Mall into the hotel design.

Interesting facts about the construction of the hotel include the use of 3,000 tons of rebar, 21,000 m³ of concrete, 160 km of conduit, and 1,100 tons of steel. 40,000 m³ of material was excavated from the site before construction began. CANA successfully delivered this fast-track project with its demanding schedule and the hotel opened in time for the World Petroleum Congress that June.
