Safe and secure.

The Drumheller Institution is a 26,000 ft2 medium security penitentiary located in Drumheller, Alberta. The two-storey detention facility features four wings with secure cells, a controlled central gathering area, security booth, and administration space. This building is one of five units, along with support areas and outdoor spaces that comprise the Drumheller Institution campus. Prisoners are processed and then transported to their respective unit and cell.

Acting as Construction Manager, CANA was contracted by Public Works and Government Services through BBCG Claim Services after another contractor defaulted and could not complete the work. Our scope involved the complete building, and rectifying deficiencies left by the first contractor.

We established our firm but fair approach and worked closely with the subcontractors to ensure that they were providing resources to maintain the schedule.

The majority of the work completed by the first contractor was not sufficient to meet CANA’s quality standards. We implemented our quality processes to ensure good workmanship, which positively impacted the schedule and cost.
