Calgary Centre for the Performing Arts

Constructed in 1985, the Calgary Centre for the Performing Arts is centrally located in the heart of downtown Calgary. The centre is composed of three separate performance halls, all connected by a common reception/service area. A rehearsal hall is situated on the lower level and there is underground parking of over 130 stalls. A +15 walkway to the Civic Plaza Parkade connects additional parking facilities to the centre.

The largest theatre is a concert hall with a seating capacity of 1,800 people. The two remaining theatres are utilized for live productions, bringing the total capacity of the centre to 2,900 people. The Performing Arts Centre was the largest of its kind in Western Canada and the third largest such facility in the country. It has many functions, including serving as a research institute, home of various arts councils, and a production studio for live theatre.

Acoustics were a key point in the designing of the Jack Singer Concert Hall. CANA utilized gunite concrete to meet the stringent acoustical requirements of the centre. This project continues to provide Calgarian’s with a wonderful place to enjoy dance and live theatre.
