CANA Management worked with our sister companies to develop a substation building to house a Gas Insulated Switchgear system that provides for the grid in Red Deer. The 4,500-ft2 building was constructed to blend with the residential community that will be constructed nearby. CANA completed all of the site works, installation of an architecturally controlled fence, building construction, and electrical rough-ins, lighting, fire alarms and air handling units in the interior.
The project was completed under a design-build methodology, where CANA was responsible for the design team, sub-consultants and subcontractors for the building construction scope of work.
The building is concrete suspended slab, structural steel walls, and frame and steel stud. CANA Energy, sister company to CANA Management, were involved with the high voltage power and transmission system installation for the project.
The Timberlands Substation project involved work from all three CANA Group companies for The City of Red Deer. CANA Construction completed the main substation building and site work. The building was completed and turned over in May 2015. CANA Energy completed the high voltage substation with assistance from CANA Utilities.
