A new retail development in Calgary's Southeast.

CANA serviced and constructed an entire 400,000 ft2 retail development in southeast Calgary at Shepard Regional Centre, with a 1,200,000 ft2 footprint. Units included fast-food services, sit-down restaurants, banks, coffee shops, large retailers, medical services, and retail showrooms.

In addition to building construction, CANA was heavily involved in preconstruction services and also oversaw the site grading, assisted SHEPARD Development Corporation (developer) in planning major servicing installations and service tie-ins for each land parcel and building. CANA also worked with SHEPARD and a transportation consultant to assess transportation infrastructure not previously completed by The City.

CANA broke ground on Shepard Regional Centre in 1996 and completed the final parcel of land in 2015. The development includes:

  • More than 10 individual retail complexes up to 20,000 ft2 each (multi-unit or standalone) including Commercial Retail Units with up to eight tenants.
  • Big Box retailers including The Real Canadian Superstore, Home Depot, Canadian Tire and Indigo.
  • Several two-storey mezzanine office complexes with showrooms and offices.
  • 100,000 ft2 of light industrial buildings, with the largest being a 12-bay, 35,000 ft2 warehouses with main showrooms/retail spaces, storage areas and administrative space.

Some of the tenants of these buildings include Muldoon’s Pub, CIBC bank, Wok Box, Second Cup, Jugo Juice, OPA Slouvaki, Pureform Diagnostics Clinic, Digital Post, Cobbs Bread, Prairie Lube, and a medical office.
