Rockyview General Hospital Unit 46 and 56 Renovations

April 21, 2020

Delivered without disruption in an operational hospital.

CANA worked on units 46 and 56 at Rockyview General Hospital to complete a re-development of the mechanical system and minor renovations. CANA also re-developed 16 on-call suites, constructed isolation rooms, renovated rooms, and completed a flooring replacement in the occupied hospital. In order to limit disruption to the operational units around the construction, CANA developed an effective phasing plan and decanting strategy to re-locate the units during the work. Unit 56 was completed first, followed by Unit 46. The scope of work involved installing a new Air Handling Unit above the Fisher Building to service the departments/units and upgrading the following:

  • New wall structures and ceilings
  • Re-location of existing millwork
  • Security system upgrades
  • Mechanical system upgrades including a new sanitary line, plumbing vent, water lines and heating
  • Addition to medical gas outlets and a new medical gas alarm panel
  • Electrical work including lighting and switchgear
  • Replacement of patient care receptacles

Extensive asbestos abatement was added to the scope, which extended the schedule. CANA worked with Alberta Health Services to mitigate impact on schedule and operations. All work was completed under the Infection Prevention and Control regulations to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
