Renfrew Solar Carport at Telus Spark Science Centre

October 14, 2021

CANA and Terralta have been selected to deliver the design-build Renfrew Solar Carport at TELUS Spark Science Centre for our client: The City of Calgary. We are pleased to be working alongside The City of Calgary, O2 Planning and Design, and SMP Engineering to deliver this exciting project.

Estimated at approximately 1.2 mega-Watts (Direct Current), the Project will leverage the best available technology for solar power generation, including high-efficiency bi-facial panels, and racking specifically designed for northern, icy climates. The Project will also include improvements to the parking lot security and lighting systems, along with new gathering spaces at the front entrance of the Spark Science Centre. While contributing to the Science Centre’s programming and exhibit space, the power generated will supply the Science Centre with 100% of their annual electricity needs. In addition, the Project will include the integration of four new electric-vehicle charging stations using solar power thereby fostering a functional, interactive science centre exhibit on powering vehicles with the sun.

Terralta is a Medicine Hat based, family-owned leader in solar projects. Their expertise in solar, combined with CANA's leadership in construction solutions, will lead to a successful project that benefits The City, TELUS Spark, and the community of Renfrew.
