Landmark Groundbreaking at Scotia Place

July 23, 2024

On July 22, 2024, the CANA Mortenson team broke ground on a legacy project for Calgary: Scotia Place. This landmark event center will serve as the eventual replacement of the Scotiabank Saddledome. Our association with this project – and the Saddledome – is longstanding and includes the original construction of the Saddledome in 1983, substantial renovations in 1995, and restorations after the 2013 flood. The discussions surrounding a new event center span decade. This groundbreaking ceremony is a tribute to the relentless dedication, perseverance, and collaborative efforts of numerous stakeholders.

We take immense pride in delivering what will arguably be the most significant civic project for Calgary in recent history.

Preparatory activities for the site have been in progress for several months. These include the construction of the new 5A street and careful disassembly and preservation of the historic Stephenson & Co Grocers building. In the coming weeks, site fencing will start followed by shoring and excavation work. We eagerly anticipate providing further updates as the project advances.
